Connect Microsoft Purview

Required Inputs​

Prepare:

  • Purview account name.
  • Purview account endpoint.
  • Target collection name or collection ID.
  • Microsoft Entra tenant ID.
  • Approved service principal or managed identity details.

Use a dedicated application identity for Lineage Advisor. Avoid reusing broad administrator identities.

The identity should have the minimum Purview permissions required to:

  • Read target collection metadata.
  • Create or update custom type definitions when enabled.
  • Create or update assets in the target collection.
  • Create or update relationships and lineage metadata.

Validation Checks​

Lineage Advisor validates:

  • The Purview endpoint is reachable.
  • The application can acquire a token.
  • The target collection exists.
  • The application can write a small validation record or perform an equivalent non-destructive check.

Use a dedicated collection for the first sync:

After validation, map production Databricks catalogs and schemas to the desired collection hierarchy.
